Where to Stay in Maldives – Fushifaru

After years of dreaming of visiting this magical place on earth together, we finally made it to Fushifaru. A tiny laid-back resort in the quiet Lhaviyani Atoll.

To begin with, our arrival was something out of a fairytale. On our way with speedboat we saw two pods of hundreds of spinner dolphins just minutes away from Fushifaru resort! Our jaws were on the floor! Upon arrival, we received the warmest reception by the hotel staff. Everyone came to sing for us, they played drums, and it was just really special. We were offered a refreshing coconut as a welcome drink and the check-in was quick and smooth.

Shortly after we were brought to our over-the-water villa. The place was stunning!! A sumptuous king-size bed, private terrace with the pool and private entry to the ocean. Then the massive bathtub facing the ocean was our absolute favourite. We found a chilled bottle of champagne with local snacks and a lovely note wishing us a great stay. We were just speechless! Forgetting about unpacking, we changed as quickly as we could and jumped straight into the ocean. The water was warm and calm and felt wonderful. After our swim, we rested on our terrace bed, sipping coconut water, nibbling on local snacks and watching fish and rays swim by under our villa.

We began to feel hungry, so we went for lunch at the poolside bar. There was a sunset infinity pool with a perfectly positioned swing on the beach… So, we already knew where we’ll be watching our sunset. 🙂 There are many swings/hammocks all around the island which make for a perfect photo opportunity / relaxation stop.

In the evening there were some clouds so we weren’t expecting to see the sunset, but just minutes before the sunset the sky drastically changed and our jaw dropped when the sky turned light blue, pink and orange. We decided to go for a sunset swim.

The next morning, the lovely staff prepared us a special breakfast on the beach. It was a memorable experience! We snacked on fresh fruit with our butts in the softest sand you can imagine. The wind was blowing and it was the perfect morning.

After the breakfast, we kicked off our shoes and ventured around to explore the resort. The entire island walk is just a little over 15 minutes. There is a dive centre, fitness centre, infinity pool and spa – but really it’s all about the sensational broad white beach. Long and soft sandy beach dotted with the most picturesque palm trees.

Over the next few days, we enjoyed a lot of incredible treats that resort has to offer, but one of the most memorable experiences was a picnic on the nearby sandbank. It is 5 minutes away with the boat and it was a pinch-myself experience where we had this slice of heaven all to ourselves!

There are many other excursions you can do, including the sunset dolphin cruise and manta rays spotting. But you can also just stay at the resort, rent the kayaks or go snorkelling around the healthy reefs. There is a large number of fantastic dive sites in the area.

Like a blink of an eye, our stay came to an end. We were sad to say good-bye to this beautiful resort. We felt completely relaxed, and also energized after our stay. Before we boarded our sea plane, we looked around the resort for the last time and said to ourselves, yes, we definitely want to come back here again!
