After the world slowly reopens, me and Uros were longing for a quick getaway. Tuscany has long been on our dream list. Classic, yes, but magical all the same, this holiday location is a must for any nature lover making a journey through Italy and seeking peace and tranquility.
As soon as we parked our car in front of Borgo Pignano (yet another top find of ours), we felt like we have arrived to a whole another world. It seemed like straight from the fairytale book – a villa with courtyard, a church, and a number of outbuildings. The Borgo has been so exquisitely restored, yet still seemed to have a foot in a different era. Periwinkle-hued doors on the cottage buildings, faded peach facades, and long stone walls all seem to have been plucked from a different time and exude charm and elegance.
Our check-in was seamless, and the staff gave us a brief tour. We were staying at the Villa Suite with charming traditional Tuscan character and breathtaking views. Little did we know there will be a polished piano and fresco-adorned bathroom all with white marble in our suite. There were even organic bath products in our shower and whole room was smelling like a lavender heaven! There was complimentary fresh fruit and a bottle of local red wine upon our arrival. Yess to feeling relaxed after a quick 15 minutes check-in. 🙂
The highlight of this place was definitely the pool – as soon as we saw it we fell in love. An infinity pool carved out of an ancient limestone quarry transported us to a different world. Our second favourite area of the hotel was the picture-perfect lawn and gardens just above the pool. For my taste, it was the perfect wedding-location. There’s a neat bar on a manicured lawn that serves custom cocktails here. It is the perfect place to unplug and indulge in an aperitif.
Dinner and breakfasts were served at the exceptional hotel’s restaurant Villa Pignano Restaurant. With all the organic and local ingredients grown on site, the ethos is about sustainable food. Delicious and anything but casual, and the service was impeccable.
There is so much to do and discover: the organic farm, the horseback adventures, yoga studio offering daily classes, billiard room, library, the arts that fill every corner of Borgo Pignano including the unique contemporary art gallery, the magical open air summer concerts, the delightful spa, the picturesque swimming pool built into the original quarry stone, & the list goes on. And once you decide to go outside this paradise you have all the treasures of Tuscany within a short drive among a splendid countryside, especially the majestic Etruscan town of Volterra just 10 minutes away.
Borgo Pignano felt like home and it created a true Tuscan experience. We were able to completely switch off from the hectic world here and so it became one of our favourite places on earth.
We were invited as guests by Borgo Pignano, but all opinions are our own.
